Okay well Substack bugged out and posted my comment twice, then deleted both, but to reiterate - yes, I'm open to it :) I'll set aside some time in the coming days to read it. It might be a few but I'll let you know when I am via comments on your posts.
I got your first comment as an email anyway, so no worries. Great! The World's Other Side is a whole novel, so don't feel compelled to read the whole thing. But anyway, thanks.
What a great end. Once the date was revealed I lost it! Ray being the first patient for Blackwater is such a cool plot. I loved how you structured the story. It flowed effortlessly all the way to the end and answered every question that I had.
Would you be cool with me having Dr. DiMassi make an appearance in my story? Mine is going to have Dr. K and it would be awesome to see the two working together. Obviously I wont do anything extreme with the character, as I want to see what you do when you follow up.
Thank you so much! To be totally honest, I didn't intend for Ray to be the _first_ Blackwater patient. Or test. Whatever the proper terminology may be. But, definitely among the first for reasons that (hopefully) will be elaborated on soon. Since I wrote this very early into the mythos development, I didn't want to step on anyone else's toes, so, to be safe, I set this one before I figured everything would be ramping up and most stories would be set.
And, please, by all means, include Dr. DiMassi in your story. I'd be happy to see what you do with her. Some of the fun of engaging in a collaborative effort like this is kind of like... making these characters that can serve as a sort of action figure that everyone else can play with in their own stories. I'm excited to see what you can do with her.
I admire that you wanted to develop something without stepping over anyone else's work. It was a brave path to take that paid off extremely well. The world you built outside and around Elysium really highlighted the scope and scale of Elysium as well as the state of the United States in the future. I believe you've given a lot of foundation for others to build off of.
Woo! I'm ecstatic to bring Dr. DiMassi into it. I think writing about Dr. Karasevdas and her will be ridiculously fun.
I feel like a smoke, and I haven't had one in ten years. Agree with Chronicler, very satisfying without a DiMassi demise. I'm so glad you participated and I loved riffing off some of your details.
Well, I don't mean to encourage filthy habits, but... well, I'd be a hypocrite since a good half of this was written while I was smoking cigars. We all have our vices. I'm glad that DiMassi being Di-feated (feel free to slap me) was not requisite, but... I still want to do something with her later. Bring her full circle, you know? And, please, feel free to riff on whatever you'd like. Just let me know if you do, because I'd love to see it.
Wow, just wow. I'm actually sad it's over! The description of Dr. DiMassi on the monorail at the end felt cinematic. I don't want to say too much because I'm dual posting to Notes. What a treat to read. I think this has got to be one of my favorites in the Blackwater project. I declare this canon! 👩⚖️
Now that is a beautiful thing to hear, haha. And humbling. Very humbling. Your kind words and shout outs are all immensely appreciated, and it's been a pleasure to take part in these projects with you.
There are already... seeds of a follow-up that came to me just the other day. But, like I said - I'd really like to see what some other people do with the setting as well and catch up with the most current pieces.
Hey Yakubian Ape, what would you say to a review swap? Smoke Break for the first couple chapters of my The World's Other Side?

This is the first thing I've read of the blackwater stories. I'll be back for more! Great stuff!
Thank you, and hopefully you enjoy what else you find.

You know I actually liked part 3 best. It worked fine without 1 and 2.
