As you correctly surmised, I only ever get on Substack to post something. This is no exception. It keeps me honest, in a weird way. Rather than fussing over Notes or notifications, I only come when I have something to offer... usually. There's the odd occasion when I don't but 95% of the time I feel as if I get on I need to post so it's not a wasted expedition into the wilderness of the Stacks.
One of the funny things about being naturally observant and having memory that, isnt uh, eidetic, if you will, but is pretty reliable, is that you can start accumulating lore on people without necessarily intending to consciously compile info.
Well that was excellent,-ly grim. There was a brief maybe 15 second window where my thinking went from "Based Alice and the indomitable human spirit" to "Oh no she's doomed isn't she." I'm not sure whether It's plain old genre savviness, or familiarity with your writing, that evoked this particular reaction, but that you managed to bring it to life in a way that felt unnervingly real is superb regardless.
I additionally appreciate the side lore that our lab-grown Langley Asian has been at large for well over 15 years now.
